Went here for dinner and WOW is the word I kept repeating. The service, the presentation, the flavour and the quality was all fantastic. We tried multiple dishes and the biggest surprise (to my mum’s dismay) was that I found the deviled eggs to be the best I’ve ever had! Would highly recommend!

I’ve been to a lot of highly rated and Michelin-starred restaurants around the world, but this one’s my favorite. The food was amazing, but what truly made the experience unforgettable was the warm hospitality and genuine care from the staff. Plus, the bar is well stocked for a great cocktail!

We had an exceptional meal and experience at Portage! It was my first time visiting St Johns Newfoundland and I had seen Portage on the list of Canada’s top 100 restaurants so I was sure to make a reservation. It did not disappoint! The food was exquisite and the service was impeccable. The oysters and snow crab were divine and the rabbit cavatelli was delicious. The bake-apple dessert was one of my favourites as I always like to taste the local specialties!

My friend and I visited Portage restaurant last week and it was the culinary highlight of our Newfoundland trip (we only had great experiences to be clear but this one was our favorite). It is no wonder it is rated one of the best in Canada. Paris, our server, was absolutely phenomenal. You can tell he loves his job and takes pride in it. The food was amazing, the ambiance was lively. Mindful and on point wine list. As someone who worked in restaurants for over 20 years I can honestly say that they nailed it on all fronts. Thank you Portage team!

Lovely meal from start to finish. The drinks and dessert were great additions and I'm glad we didn't skip out on those. The style is sharing plates, so it's a good opportunity to try lots. Good mix of bougie foods like fresh seafood and classic favs like deviled eggs. Appreciated the emphasis on local ingredients.

Best restaurant in St. John’s in my opinion. Food was amazing and perfectly executed. Service was a 10/10 (thank you to Paris and to our sommelier!). My highlights: the scallop toast and the carrots side dish . Also, don’t miss out on the coffee negroni!

Neighbourhood Gem!! Our waiter Paris was exceptional! He helped us make the menu selection with the right proportions as you can order 1/2 sizes for sharing. The food was creative and delicious. Hard to pick a favourite between the beef salad, Arctic Char (cream cheese and freshly baked pumpernickel bread, ginger carrots with a crunch, birds nest style potatoes all so good!! The cocktail looked fun but we ordered a nice bottle of French rose’. All the staff were helpful with keeping your table clear of used dishes and water on the table. We were well taken care of. Make a reservation so you’re not disappointed to miss this lovely restaurant!

Seafood was amazing and fresh. Service was top notch. Sweet Caroline was very attentive and helpful. Tables are a little close together though, if you are a large group not so bad but if you are a couple it can be a little loud.
